The 2018 Annual Fundraising Event
In complement to Xellia’s corporate funding of the SOS Family Strengthening Program in Eldoret, for the fourth year, Xellia’s Annual Fundraising Event was held, this year, to raise funds to help young women and men from vulnerable families in Eldoret by giving them the opportunity of technical and vocational training, business start-up support and life skills training sessions, which will aid them to live an autonomous life, empowering them to enter the job-market confidently and independently.
SOS Children’s Villages, Eldoret, Kenya, selects the youth beneficiaries from vulnerable families in Eldoret enrolled in the local SOS Children’s Villages Family Strengthening Program. During the recruitment phase, the Family Strengthening Program staff from SOS Children’s Villages register all household members who are dependent on the primary caregiver for support, and these include youth who reside in the selected families.
During the three week period of the Annual Fundraising Event 2018, Xellia colleagues managed to raise funds which will support at least 45 young adults with the technical and vocational training for a school year commencing 2019.
The trip to Eldoret...
In connection with the Annual fundraising event, any colleague who made a donation had a chance to sign up to be part of the lucky draw to visit Eldoret, Kenya in 2019 and visit the SOS Children’s Villages as well as take part in the jiggers outreach campaign and meet the families our funds help support.These three individuals made their trip in the spring of 2019.
The Annual Fundraising 2017 sent three colleagues who won the lucky draw in 2017 to Eldoret in the Spring of 2018, along with an XLT member and a colleague from the SOS Global Steering Committee at Xellia to visit the SOS and Xellia Medical Center and Maternity Wing; the SOS Primary School; as well as be introduced to many of the activities that the SOS Family Strengthening Program coordinates, such as the jiggers campaign and a local day care center receiving support from our Xellia employee driven initiatives.
